Recorded speech and supporting metadata

The current proof-of-concept combines individual word recordings with example sentences and metadata describing the language data.

Isolated word recordings

Individual Igbo words are recorded separately, providing clear examples of the spoken word for further analysis.

Contextual sentences

Words are also represented in complete sentences to provide speech in a more natural linguistic context.

Structured metadata

Each sentence recording is linked to metadata including the target word, meaning and category.

Capturing tonal distinctions

Some of the recordings focus on words whose meanings are distinguished through tonal and orthographic differences. The dataset keeps these forms separate so they can be examined individually.
